I didn’t know what to expect walking into the Windmill Cultural Center, but I walked away thinking, “That place was really cool!” The ladies who greeted us were very friendly and knowledgeable - One even walked us around and told us about each windmill (and how they ended up in Fulton, IL). They also sell flour that is milled across the street.

Got lucky! Rode my bike and saw the Windmill was open, pleasant surprise! So neat to get to see the inside and learn a little bit about milling.

Lovely small River town, Fulton, IL with a Huge Dutch Windmill right on the river.
We took a nice walk along the river path. It’s completely paved. Nice stop!

I never even thought to look for the hours before we arrived. We literally pulled into the lot with 2 minutes to spare and missed our chance to see the inside!

Extremely interesting history of windmills. And, the models were really great to visualize how they operated. Plus, the fresh ground flax seed and unbleached flour are going to be a treat.

So interesting, full of made to scale, handmade models of many different types of windmills from Europe and the US. 4 of the models actually worked. Our guide told us some great stories of the couple who made them. Our 9 and 11 go’s enjoyed it, too. Nice gift shop and flour from The working mill across the street.

This is an interesting place to go. It has many miniature windmills from The Netherlands. The man who made these built them himself.
